Maraliz Cartagena
Associate Attorney
Maraliz Cartagena graduated from the University of Puerto Rico Law School in 2014, cum laude. During law school Maraliz participated in an Internship program with the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Puerto Rico. Maraliz had to balance the demands of working full time as a journalist with the rigors of a legal education. She also completed clinical work in federal criminal litigation.
After graduating from law school, Maraliz worked as an Immigration law clerk for Robles Law Group in San Juan, P.R. She has experience with family based petitions including I-130s, U visas and VAWA. Maraliz moved to DC in 2015 and started working in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Maraliz was awarded for her exemplary work with the Civil Rights Division Assistant Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Her passion for immigration prompted her to move from Civil Rights into full time Immigration work.
Maraliz is native Spanish speaker excited to continue serving the Spanish speaking community.
